Welcome to my blog!
Today, February 6, 2011, is the Centennial of President Ronald Reagan's birth. I first became aware of Ronald Reagan when I was 16 and he was running for President. I had read the positions of all the major candidates that year and chose Reagan as the one to support. Of course, I couldn't vote at 16, but I did keep my eyes and ears open to what was going on. This was long before the Internet was accessible to every home (it was still an academic-based network).
While he didn't accomplish all he said he would (and on several issues merely paid lip-service), Reagan still accomplished a lot and made America proud again. We stood tall in the world. He vanquished the idea that the country was "too big" to be effectively governed by one person. Say what you will, but he was a transformational President.
One of my fondest memories (this is gonna sound bizarre!) was his firing of the air traffic controllers. Someone was finally doing something about unionized government workers! I was all for it.
I hope to use this Centennial year to highlight Ronald Reagan books, DVDs, and other items that are released that I feel are worthy of your consideration. If you have seen any of these products (several have already been released), feel free to post a comment below.
Do you have any favorite Reagan memories? Share them with us! Hated him? Let's hear those stories, too (please don't be vulgar).
Thanks for reading my blog!
