Welcome to Tony Island Blog! In Massachusetts and Maine, today, April 18, 2011, is Patriots' Day. To celebrate, I thought I'd share this poster with you: Reagan: Government is the problem. by FamousQuotes Learn how to sell your art online at Zazzle. Feel free to buy one poster for yourself and another one for each of your friends. Remember those prophetic words Reagan spoke during his first inaugural address. I don't understand why liberal-progressives don't see this? Why don't they understand that what the Government gives today (like "free heatlh care"), it can take tomorrow (like your life!) Leave us a comment to let us know where you hung your Reagan Patriots' Day poster! Thanks for reading Tony Island Blog!

Rawhide Down! Rawhide Down!

Welcome to my blog! Today is the 30th anniversary of the attempted assasination of President Reagan. Rawhide Down: The Near Assassination of Ronald Reagan  is a new book that covers that day in detail. I haven't had a chance to read the book, but Bill O'Reilly gives it a thumbs up. It sounds interesting - so far, it's received 4 and 5 star ratings on Amazon.com . If you've read Rawhide Down, let us know by leaving a comment below. In the meantime, take a moment out of your busy day today and reflect on Reagan's assasination attempt, his rapid recovery and what may have happened had he not survived. Thanks for reading my blog!

I had read the positions of all the major candidates that year and chose Reagan as the one to support. Of course, I couldn't vote at 16, but I did keep my eyes and ears open to what was going on. This was long before the Internet was accessible to every home (it was still an academic-based network). While he didn't accomplish all he said he would (and on several issues merely paid lip-service), Reagan still accomplished a lot and made America proud again. We stood tall in the world. He vanquished the idea that the country was "too big" to be effectively governed by one person. Say what you will, but he was a transformational President. One of my fondest memories (this is gonna sound bizarre!) was his firing of the air traffic controllers. Someone was finally doing something ...
