SuperBowl Weekend!

Welcome to my blog!

Well, tomorrow, February 1st, is Superbowl Sunday! That's the day when the world stops and watches America's favorite (and very profitable) sport, football. This is real football, not the European 'kick the ball' kind, but real slug 'em, smash mouth mano-a-mano football.

This year, NBC hosts the showdown between the AFC's Pittsburgh Steelers and NFC's Arizona Cardinals. The smart money is on the Pittsburgh Steelers to win an unprecedented sixth Superbowl.

Some Superbowl XLIII trivia...

  • In their previous 6 Superbowl appearances, the Steelers have only lost once.
  • Both head coaches in this year's Superbowl matchup are first time Superbowl head coaches.
  • Kurt Warner, Superbowl XXXIV winner, lost to the underdog New England Patriots in Superbowl XXXVI. Could Warner do the same to the heavily favored Steelers in Superbowl XLIII?
  • This is the Cardinal's first Superbowl appearance.

Will you be watching The Big Game tomorrow night? Will you be attending a Superbowl party? Let us know your thoughts on football and the Superbowl by leaving a comment below!

Pride ... or ... Prejudice?

Welcome to my blog!

I don't want to get deep into my personal politics, but I did vote for President Obama for various reasons.

I like to see the pageantry and appreciate the significance of the peaceful transition of power from one President to the next. As such, I had the TV on in work on Tuesday to try and catch what I could of the festivities. Several co-workers made comments that I thought fairly inappropriate and sad. There didn't seem to be much evidence of a healing of the races. While nothing said was overly racial, the comments spoke volumes.

I also found negative comments by some friends and family members. I was a little surprised (and somewhat saddened) considering the worldwide euphoria surrounding this election and transition.

I can only hope that people keep an open mind and give the new President a chance to make changes for the better.

What reactions did you find? Positive, negative, surprising, disappointing? Let us know by leaving a comment below!

Time to Repeal Term Limits?

Welcome to my blog!

As we welcome 44 to the White House, the thought crosses my mind on what to do about Presidential term limits. Is it time to repeal the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which limits a person to two terms as President? Passed in reaction to Franklin Roosevelt's unprecedented 4 terms, the 22nd Amendment effectively makes a second term President a "lame duck" on day 1 of his second term. We've seen over the years that much mischief results during this lame duck Presidency, especially if the incumbent won in a landslide or similar overwhelming majority. It seems that the prospect of having to be re-elected to a second term keeps most first term Presidents "honest" therefore it could be reasoned that eliminating any term limits on a President would keep his feet to the fire and thus more "honest" throughout his Presidency - for however long such a Presidency may last.

About 10 years or so ago, the idea of term limits for Senators and Representatives gained some traction but eventually died off. Perhaps it's time to reverse course and limit our Representatives and unshackle our President?

What are you thoughts? Is it time to revisit the 22nd Amendment? Let us know by leaving a comment below!

Yea! Eli Manning and the New York Giants Lost!

Welcome to my blog!

Ah...life is good in the NFL! Even though the New England Patriots, at 11-5, were excluded from the playoffs, it seems the NFL Gods have shaken up the playing field some more and brought down yet another "great" team - the New York Giants! Yippee - Eli Manning can't have back-to-back Superbowl wins - at least not this year!

Thank you NFL Gods!

Feel that I'm a sore loser? A Jerk? Then let me know in the Comments below!

YEA! The Dolphins Lost, too!!

Welcome to my blog!

Well, well, well - the 2008 darlings of the NFL AFC East division, the Miami Dolphins, have LOST in the first round of the playoffs!! YIPPEE!

Worst to First -- and now -- One and Done! I love it!

It seems it was Florida's destiny to take two bottom-of-the-barrel teams (NFL's Miami Dolphins and MLB's Tampa Rays) and make them Division winners in their respective sports this past sports year...but, unfortunately, neither team could "go the distance". The Dolphins collapsed today while Tampa collapsed in October!

Can you tell I'm a bitter, poor-sport New England Patriots / Boston Red Sox fan? :)

On to next week's playoff rounds - with my two "enemy" teams (Colts, Dolphins) knocked out in the first round!

YES! YES! Peyton Manning Lost again!!

Welcome to my blog!

So, I didn't get a chance to watch the entire marque NFL Wildcard Weekend game - Indianapolis Colts vs San Diego Chargers. The last play I saw the Colts were ahead and had just intercepted a potential Chargers touchdown pass. I figured it was over for the Chargers.

I turned on the TV to watch the beginning of Saturday Night Live (the only part that's still funny) and I see the football game went to overtime and the COLTS LOST! YES!! YES!! YES!! I'm so sick of hearing about Peyton Manning.

And even sicker about the potential Manning vs Manning matchup in the Superbowl. Whew!

Sorry - I know they are both good quarterbacks, but I'm just sick of hearing about them.

Isn't that petty of me? Jealous that I have no talent, too. But still...

Am I being too mean? Too petty? Too something? Let me know by leaving a comment below!
