Are You a Collector? Part 1 of 2

Welcome to my blog!

As I look around my room, I find that I am a collector -- more accurately, a collector of collections. I have tons of stuff that I have picked up over the years -- forgetting about more things than I remember about.

Why do people collect? There are many theories out there - some suggesting it goes back to our days as cavemen (hunter, gatherer roles). I read an interesting article about collecting in an issue of AARP magazine (and, no, I'm not a member!!). Don't remember the details, just that it was interesting and that it let me know I'm not alone! (which I knew - but it was nice to know that there are people out there that obssessively collect things - I don't think I'm there yet!).

I wonder if some form of depression or other mental state has something to do with the collecting gene? For those that collect, there's a bit of high when you get that new piece to add to your collection. That high usually diminishes and it's off to add more items to the collection (or better yet - start a new collection!).

In the next post, I'll list some of my collections.

Do you collect? Are you obssessive? Casual? Why do you collect? Why do humans collect? Share your thoughts and theories on collecting -- but NOT your collections (that's for Part 2!) -- in the Comments section below.

Thanks for reading my blog!
